We held our first grading of 2019 on Saturday 2nd March and although it wasn’t out busiest it was most definitely our most intense. After looking at what is required to achieve your grades coach Arron decided in order to keep standards at the club high and ensure no one is resting on their laurels the pass amrks for all grades were raised. This resulted in some very tight results but everyone now knows what is expected to earn your grades. Our succesful candidates were:
Lauren Randall - Red Belt
Camden Taylor - Yellow Belt
Ryan Randall - Orange Belt
Christian Gadsden-Patel - Green Belt
Alfie Russell - Green Belt
Ellie Singer - Purple Belt
Neve Singer - Purple Belt
Craig Heath - Purple Belt
Our next coloured belt grading is in October 2019
Our year started off with the first leg of the 2019 Lordswood open, which doubled up as the ICO English Championships, we had three fighters at the event, they were:
It was an extremely busy day a 09:00 start, with the team not leaving the venue until 20:00. Harvey finished the day with 2 x silvers in the boys -35kg mat & ring continuous. Alfie & CJ did well to compete in a massive group but were unfortunate this time to come away with a 4th & 5th place finish, both narrowley missing out on the medal positions
ICO British Championships
Our second event of 2019 was the ICO British Championships on 07th April and what an event it was. With over 750 competitors in a wide variety of categories it has to be the busiest open we have attended to date (minus world championships of course). Just a single fighter this time in young Harvey who entered -35kg ring continuous and -35 & -40kg boxing. Harvey was unfortunate not to place in the ring continuous but came away with a gold in the -35kg boxing and took silver when stepping up a division in the -40kg boxing.
AFSO British Ring Sports Open
Harvey again stepped up as a lone fighter on 28th April at the AFSO British Open at North Solihull Sports Centre (beginning to feel like our second home at this point!) Originally entering 2 categories, Harvey took an extra 2 categories at short notice to participate in boxing, mat continuous and 2 ring continuous at various ages and weights. It was another successful day for Harvey as he came away with 3 bronze medals and a winners title belt. Not bad for Sundays work!
WKO World Championships Barnsley
Over the weekend of 26th-28th July young Harvey Adlam attended the World Kickboxing Organisation open World Championships at the Barnsley Metrodome Arena. It was truly a massive event with over 800 competitors. We were delighted for Harvey to come away with 2 Gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal as well as taking his first steps into the world of full contact. Our attention now turns towards the WKO British Championships being held at the same venue on 08th September.
